femme fatale… by dreamcatcher—-fairytale

A follow on from the subject of Modroc experimentation - this was a photo i created for my summer project before I started University, the brief was ”Traces”. I decided to go in the opposite direction to the typical idea of people’s footprints/paths/garbage etc, so created this mask and to portray the personality/character which are trying desperately to be seen through the mask and eventually it bursts out after building up for so long. This was relevant to anxiety and dread in which students suffer, especially before meeting new people at the start of university. I used a very strong yet small light and placed it bellow the mask, whilst in a completely darkened room and to create the smoke I blew out a candle I’d lit underneath the mouth, couldn’t believe how good it looked when I first captured it.

This was just an experiment with Modroc, whereby I created a mask (which one of my friends were kind enough to model for) to see how I could represent myself in front of the camera. Pretty self-explanatory reasoning behind it really. Eventually I’d like to create a caste which covers the human body, I love using Modroc because even though it solidifies to create a hard substance, if you don’t layer it properly it lacks any real strength to hold up itself as a figure or shape.
